WordPress Page Speed Optimisation
Most small businesses now use WordPress as a CMS for their company website due to the flexibility, customisation options & power to develop everything from a one page website to eCommerce with Google shopping feeds.
Stock WordPress is however just the base, time must be spent auditing a site to optimise for multi platform rendering and page speed.
Here is an example of a site, which was tested with Google Page Speed Insights without any page speed optimisation.
In the right corner of the left pic you can see the site loaded in 3.01 seconds and Google gave it a score of 77/100. These are still very competitive metrics and is due to the site being hosted on a fast local VPS, which I have previously blogged about here
Can a website load faster? Can I get a higher score? Yes and No. Scores and page load time fluctuate, for example this site scores 92/100
To score higher you would need to either reduce the size of the page (removing images, content e.t.c), therein reducing user experience & conversions or further compressing the page (like a .Zip file), which creates rendering issues.
In our current tech climate 1.5 seconds is about the quickest time you can load a website page of 1mb. But still offer the best user experience with imaging, icons & animations.
